About Your Host

I’m Swikriti, born and raised in Darjeeling. Tea was never really part of my life growing up. In fact, I didn’t like the milk tea my parents and everyone around me drank. For me it was too bitter!

What I didn’t know then is that locals rarely taste the true Darjeeling tea. Historically, the best leaves were never meant for us, they were grown for export since colonial times. What remained for locals were the lowest grades, strong and tannic, which is why milk and sugar became part of how tea was consumed.

Only when I moved abroad and tasted real Darjeeling tea for the first time did I realize what had been hidden from me all along. As I dug deeper out of curiosity, I discovered so much about the current struggles of the tea industry, mass production taking a toll on quality, farmers losing their livelihoods, and gardens shutting down. Slowly, I began to understand the depth of the issue, and with that came a strong responsibility to share these truths.

This project is small and deeply personal. For me, it is not just about selling Darjeeling tea. It is about reviving its story, and bringing forward the culture, land, farmers, and the tea pickers behind every cup.

Why This Matters?

This is more than just tea.

It’s about changing the story, one where the people who grow the tea are finally seen, supported, and celebrated.

Many small farmers in Darjeeling grow beautiful, high-grown tea but without expensive licenses, they’re cut out of the market.

I’m building Darjeeling Cup to work directly with them, without the middlemen, and share their tea with people who care.

If that’s you then welcome. Let’s build this together.
